How Much Water Does An Above-Ground Pool Hold?

A common question for swimming pool owners is how much water will it take to fill my above-ground pool?

It's important to know for planning installation and calculating the approximate cost of water in your area.

The Formulas

There are slightly different formulas for calculation pool water volume depending upon the shape of the pool:

  • Round - Diameter X Diameter X Average Pool Depth X 5.9
  • Oval - Length X Width X Average Pool Depth X 5.9
  • Rectangle - Length X Width X Average Pool Depth X 7.5

If the pool has a shallow end and a deep end, the average depth can be determined by multiplying the two depths and dividing by two.
